On this 4.3 mile, easy-paced book club run, join Read & Run on the Road organizer Chelsey Stone to explore the neighborhood haunts of the individuals narrated in three of the fourteen chapters in Edward P. Jones’s Lost in the City: “The First Day,” “Lost in the City”, and “The Night Rhonda Ferguson was Killed.”
The book is so beautiful—and often heartbreaking—in its portrayal of the fictional lives of residents in DC’s Shaw neighborhood. Thirteen unconnected chapters capture a snapshot of each character’s trials and tribulations—from a child’s first day of school, to woman who cannot seem to get lost in her own town, to an aimless teenager who loses a talented friend.
On the route for this Read & Run on the Road event, created and led by me (Chelsey Stone), we’ll stop at several different locations. While the three chapters are distinct, we will visit the significant places of each chapter before moving to the next, weaving their stories together.
